4 Things to Look For in the Perfect Pair of Scrubs

Finding medical scrubs that combine function and fashion into an outfit that’s comfortable, yet durable can feel like a daunting task. Snag scrubs that fit your work needs and keep you looking good while you do your job! Whether you work in a hospital, doctor’s office, nursing home, or dental office, show off your own unique style while including comfort and functionality into your wardrobe.

For both men and women in the field, here are some tips to ensure you find your favorite scrubs:

Practicality

It is important to consider how functional and useful your scrubs are going to be while you’re on duty. When shopping for scrubs, put into consideration the activities you do on a daily basis and what things you are going to need from your outfit. Do you usually need to put things in your chest pocket? Does carrying extra things add stress to your neck and shoulders and you don’t need any pockets altogether? Typically, male scrubs will have a chest pocket while women scrubs have two pockets on each side to lighten the load.

Comfort

The medical field can be a stressful environment where you are constantly on your feet for hours at a time, and for that reason, it is important to be at physical ease and free of any pain or constraint. When selecting your scrubs, you want to make sure they are a good, comfortable fit. Make sure you’re choosing the right size and able to freely move around. Pants should never slide down your hips or display your undergarments when you bend. Some scrubs will have bands that run across the waist and a tie in the back. Others will have a drawstring or a button. Your scrubs should never be so baggy that it is difficult to move in, but never so tight that they’ll restrict you.

Style

Style says it all – but it may depend on the rules of the hospital or office you currently work for. Whatever the rules are that you work for, there is no reason you can’t add your own personal style on your scrubs. Once you find out the rules and regulations of your employer, there are a lot of ways to dress up your uniform!

Whether you want to wear darker colors to make it easier to remove stains, bright, bold colors to bring life to the atmosphere, or prints and colors that are in theme with the season and holidays, stock up on your favorite hues!  Another way to make your scrub unique to you is to consider what type of pants and shirt you are looking for. Do you want longer pants or looking for shorter pants? Do you want a round collar or V-neck? Are longer sleeves more comfortable for you or do the shorter sleeves fit you better? All of these things should be considered unless of course, your choices are limited and where you are working has a specific dress code. Nevertheless, experiment with the wiggle room you have and find your unique scrub trends!

Quality

Even if it means you have to spend more, purchasing scrubs from a high-quality manufacturer is essential. You’ll be spending a lot of time in your scrubs – invest in a reliable retailer. This doesn’t mean you have to buy the most expensive ones, just make sure you focus on the material quality and warranty – some brands even have special discounts or sales!
